Ingredients
Scale
3 ½ cups all-purpose flour (plus extra for dusting)
1 packet (2 ¼ tsp) active dry yeast
1 teaspoon sugar
1 ½ teaspoons salt
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 ¼ cups warm water (about 110°F)
1 can (15 oz) crushed tomatoes
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 teaspoon dried oregano
1 teaspoon dried basil
Salt and pepper to taste
2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
Your choice of toppings (pepperoni, bell peppers, olives, mushrooms, etc.)
Instructions
In a small bowl, combine warm water, yeast, and sugar. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until frothy.
In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and salt, making a well in the center for the liquid ingredients.
Pour the yeast mixture and olive oil into the well. Stir until a shaggy dough forms.
Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
Form the dough into a ball and place it in a greased bowl, covering it with a damp cloth. Let it rise for 1-2 hours.
Heat a small saucepan over medium heat, add olive oil and sauté minced garlic. Add crushed tomatoes, oregano, basil, salt and pepper. Let it simmer for 15 minutes.
Preheat oven to 475°F (245°C). If using a pizza stone, place it in the oven.
Once risen, punch the dough down and turn it out onto a floured surface. Roll or stretch into desired shape and thickness.
Transfer the dough onto a parchment-lined baking sheet. Spread sauce, sprinkle with mozzarella, and add toppings.
Bake for 12-15 minutes or until crust is golden brown and cheese is bubbling.
Let cool for a couple of minutes before slicing.
