Sugar
Flour
Cinnamon
Powdered sugar
Vanilla
Milk
Instructions
- In a small saucepan, brown the butter over medium heat until it develops a nutty aroma and golden color, then remove from heat and let cool.
- In a large bowl, combine warm water, active dry yeast, and sugar; let sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy.
- Add flour, brown sugar, cinnamon, olive oil, and the browned butter into the yeast mixture and mix until a dough forms.
- Knead the dough for about 5-7 minutes until smooth, then place it in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Punch down the dough, then spread it out onto a greased baking sheet, dimpling the surface with your fingers.
- Let the dough rise again for about 20-30 minutes before baking in the preheated oven for 20-30 minutes until golden brown.
- While the bread is baking, prepare the glaze by whisking together sifted powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla until smooth.
- Once the focaccia is done baking, remove it from the oven and drizzle with the vanilla glaze. Allow to cool before slicing.
Notes
For added flavor, consider mixing in some nutmeg or cardamom to the dough. Always sift the powdered sugar for a smooth glaze.
