Description

Discover the secret to a mouthwatering patty melt with our classic recipe perfect for a quick and delicious meal any day

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb ground beef (80/20 for that perfect juiciness)
  • 1 medium onion, thinly sliced
  • 4 slices of rye or sourdough bread
  • 4 slices of Swiss cheese
  • 2 tablespoons of unsalted butter, softened
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • Optional: A dash of Worcestershire sauce for added flavor

  • Instructions

  • In a skillet over medium heat, melt a little butter and toss in the sliced onions. Sauté slowly until golden and caramelized for about 10-15 minutes.
  • While the onions are cooking, season the ground beef with salt and pepper and form it into two equal patties, about 1/2 inch thick.
  • In a separate skillet, cook the patties over medium-high heat for about 4-5 minutes on each side until browned.
  • Place a slice of cheese on each cooked patty to melt slightly. Butter one side of each slice of bread.
  • Layer the cheese patty, caramelized onions, another slice of cheese, and finish with another slice of bread, butter-side-up.
  • Grill the sandwich in the skillet, pressing down gently for about 3-5 minutes on each side until golden brown.
  • Once done, slice in half and serve immediately.
