Ingredients
Scale
2 pounds of spaghetti
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 medium onion, finely chopped
4 cloves of garlic, minced
1 pound ground beef
2 cans (28 ounces each) crushed tomatoes
2 tablespoons tomato paste
1 teaspoon dried oregano
1 teaspoon dried basil
Salt and pepper to taste
2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese (optional)
Fresh basil for garnish (optional)
Instructions
In a large pot, bring salted water to a boil for your spaghetti. Once boiling, add the pasta and cook according to package instructions until al dente.
While your pasta cooks, heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and sauté for about 5 minutes until soft and translucent.
Stir in the minced garlic and cook for another minute.
Add the ground beef to the skillet, breaking it apart with your spatula. Cook until browned, about 6-8 minutes. Drain any excess fat if necessary.
Stir in the crushed tomatoes and tomato paste, bringing this mixture to a simmer.
Add the dried oregano and basil, then season with salt and pepper. Let it simmer for about 15-20 minutes.
Once the spaghetti is done, drain it (reserve a bit of pasta water) and toss it straight into the sauce.
If you’re feeling indulgent, mix in the shredded mozzarella cheese at this point, or sprinkle it on top afterward.
