Ingredients
Scale
1 package (1 pound) of puff pastry (thawed if frozen)
8 ounces cream cheese (softened)
1/2 cup powdered sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 medium apples (peeled, cored, and diced into small pieces)
1 tablespoon lemon juice
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
1/2 cup espresso or strong brewed coffee (cooled)
1 egg (beaten for egg wash)
Flour (for dusting)
Instructions
Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
In a mixing bowl, combine the softened cream cheese, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract. Beat until smooth and creamy.
In another bowl, mix your diced apples with lemon juice, ground cinnamon, and nutmeg.
On a floured surface, roll out the puff pastry and cut the dough into squares, about 4×4 inches.
On each pastry square, add a dollop of the cream cheese mixture and a spoonful of the apple mixture. Fold the corners of the pastry up over the filling and pinch the edges to seal. Brush with the beaten egg.
Drizzle cooled espresso over the top of your filled pastry if desired.
Place your danishes on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Bake for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown and puffed up.
Notes
A comforting pastry that combines the delightful flavors of cream cheese, apples, and espresso, perfect for a cozy morning or afternoon treat.
