  • Yield: 8 servings 1x

Description

Flan is a smooth, velvety caramel custard dessert that’s simple to make and perfect for any occasion. With a rich vanilla flavor and a beautiful golden caramel top, this creamy treat is always a crowd-pleaser!

Ingredients

Scale

For the Caramel:

  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tbsp water

For the Flan Custard:

  • 1 can (14 oz) sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 can (12 oz) evaporated milk
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 tbsp vanilla extract
  • ½ cup granulated sugar

Instructions

  • Make the Caramel:
    • In a small saucepan, melt sugar over medium heat until golden brown.
    • Carefully add water and stir until smooth. Pour into the bottom of a 9-inch round baking dish. Set aside to cool.
  • Prepare the Custard:
    • In a bowl, whisk eggs, sweetened condensed milk, evaporated milk, and sugar until smooth.
    • Add vanilla extract and mix until well combined.
  • Bake the Flan:
    • Pour the custard mixture into the caramel-lined baking dish.
    • Place the dish in a larger baking pan and add hot water to the outer pan (about 1 inch deep).
    • Bake at 175°C (350°F) for 45-50 minutes, or until set. The flan should jiggle slightly when shaken.
  • Cool & Serve:
    • Let the flan cool to room temperature, then refrigerate for at least 2 hours.
    • To serve, run a knife around the edges and invert onto a plate. Enjoy!

Notes

  • For a lighter version, use low-fat milk or add a bit of cinnamon to the custard.
  • Garnish with whipped cream or fresh berries for extra flair.
  • Store in the fridge for up to 3 days.
