2 cups all-purpose flour (sifted)
1 package (2 1/4 tsp) instant yeast
1/4 cup granulated sugar
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 cup whole milk (warm, not hot)
1/4 cup unsalted butter (melted)
1 large egg
1/2 cup brown sugar (packed)
1 tsp ground cinnamon
1/4 cup unsalted butter (softened)
4 large eggs
1 cup whole milk
1 tsp vanilla extract
1/2 tsp ground nutmeg (optional)
1 cup powdered sugar
1–2 tbsp milk (to thin the icing)
Maple syrup (for serving)
In a large mixing bowl, whisk together flour, instant yeast, granulated sugar, and salt.
In a separate bowl, combine warm milk, melted butter, and egg. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until a dough forms.
On a floured surface, knead the dough for about 5 minutes until it's smooth and elastic.
Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a towel, and let it rise in a warm place until it doubles in size (about 1 hour).
While the dough is rising, mix together the softened butter, brown sugar, and cinnamon until it’s a spreadable paste.
Once the dough has risen, punch it down gently, then roll it out on a floured surface into a large rectangle (about 1/4 inch thick).
Spread the cinnamon filling evenly over the dough, leaving a small border around the edges.
Starting from the long edge, roll the dough tightly into a log. Pinch the seams to seal them.
Cut the log into 12 equal pieces. Place them in a greased baking dish, cut side up.
Cover again and let them rise for about 30 minutes.
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and bake for 20-25 minutes until golden brown.
In a large bowl, combine eggs, milk, vanilla extract, and nutmeg. Whisk until well combined.
Gently dip each roll into the egg mixture after they have cooled for about 10 minutes.
Grill them on a hot skillet for about 2-3 minutes per side or bake at 350°F (175°C) for an additional 10-15 minutes.
In a small bowl, mix powdered sugar with 1-2 tablespoons of milk until smooth and drizzle over warm rolls.
Serve warm, drizzled with maple syrup.
