Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour (sifted)
  • 1 package (2 1/4 tsp) instant yeast
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup whole milk (warm, not hot)
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter (melted)
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar (packed)
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter (softened)
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 tsp ground nutmeg (optional)
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 12 tbsp milk (to thin the icing)
  • Maple syrup (for serving)

  • Instructions

  • In a large mixing bowl, whisk together flour, instant yeast, granulated sugar, and salt.
  • In a separate bowl, combine warm milk, melted butter, and egg. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until a dough forms.
  • On a floured surface, knead the dough for about 5 minutes until it's smooth and elastic.
  • Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a towel, and let it rise in a warm place until it doubles in size (about 1 hour).
  • While the dough is rising, mix together the softened butter, brown sugar, and cinnamon until it’s a spreadable paste.
  • Once the dough has risen, punch it down gently, then roll it out on a floured surface into a large rectangle (about 1/4 inch thick).
  • Spread the cinnamon filling evenly over the dough, leaving a small border around the edges.
  • Starting from the long edge, roll the dough tightly into a log. Pinch the seams to seal them.
  • Cut the log into 12 equal pieces. Place them in a greased baking dish, cut side up.
  • Cover again and let them rise for about 30 minutes.
  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and bake for 20-25 minutes until golden brown.
  • In a large bowl, combine eggs, milk, vanilla extract, and nutmeg. Whisk until well combined.
  • Gently dip each roll into the egg mixture after they have cooled for about 10 minutes.
  • Grill them on a hot skillet for about 2-3 minutes per side or bake at 350°F (175°C) for an additional 10-15 minutes.
  • In a small bowl, mix powdered sugar with 1-2 tablespoons of milk until smooth and drizzle over warm rolls.
  • Serve warm, drizzled with maple syrup.
