Ingredients
1 lb button or cremini mushrooms
sliced
1 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 cup cornmeal (optional
for extra crunch)
2 large eggs
1/4 cup milk
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon paprika
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
Vegetable oil
for frying
1/2 cup mayonnaise
1/2 cup sour cream
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon onion powder
1 teaspoon dried dill
1 teaspoon parsley
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
1–2 tablespoons milk (to adjust consistency)
Instructions
- In a bowl, whisk together the flour, cornmeal, garlic powder, paprika, salt, and black pepper.
- In another bowl, beat the eggs with the milk.
- Dip each mushroom slice into the egg mixture, then coat it in the flour mixture.
- Heat vegetable oil in a skillet over medium heat.
- Fry the coated mushrooms until golden brown and crispy, about 3-4 minutes per side.
- Remove from oil and drain on paper towels.
- For the ranch dressing, mix together mayonnaise, sour cream, garlic powder, onion powder, dill, parsley, salt, and black pepper in a bowl.
- Add milk to achieve desired consistency.
- Serve the fried mushrooms warm with the ranch dressing on the side.
Notes
For an extra spicy kick, add some cayenne pepper to the flour mixture. Adjust the ranch dressing thickness by varying the amount of milk.
