1 cup (200g) granulated sugar
1 cup (200g) brown sugar, packed
1/2 cup (115g) unsalted butter, melted and slightly cooled
2 large eggs
1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
1 3/4 cups (220g) all-purpose flour
1/2 cup (45g) unsweetened cocoa powder
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 cup (170g) semi-sweet chocolate chips
1 cup (120g) powdered sugar
Optionally, 1/4 teaspoon orange or black food coloring
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
In a large mixing bowl, combine the granulated sugar, brown sugar, and melted butter. Whisk until smooth.
Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each, then stir in the vanilla extract.
In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add to the wet ingredients and mix until just combined.
Fold in the chocolate chips.
Scoop out portions of dough and roll into balls about 1 inch wide.
If desired, add food coloring and swirl for a marbled effect.
Roll each ball in powdered sugar until coated.
Place on baking sheets, spaced about 2 inches apart, and bake for 10-12 minutes until the tops are crackled.
Allow to cool on the baking sheets for a few minutes before transferring to wire racks.
