  • 1 cup (200g) brown sugar, packed
  • 1/2 cup (115g) unsalted butter, melted and slightly cooled
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 1 3/4 cups (220g) all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup (45g) unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup (170g) semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 cup (120g) powdered sugar
  • Optionally, 1/4 teaspoon orange or black food coloring

  • Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the granulated sugar, brown sugar, and melted butter. Whisk until smooth.
  • Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each, then stir in the vanilla extract.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add to the wet ingredients and mix until just combined.
  • Fold in the chocolate chips.
  • Scoop out portions of dough and roll into balls about 1 inch wide.
  • If desired, add food coloring and swirl for a marbled effect.
  • Roll each ball in powdered sugar until coated.
  • Place on baking sheets, spaced about 2 inches apart, and bake for 10-12 minutes until the tops are crackled.
  • Allow to cool on the baking sheets for a few minutes before transferring to wire racks.
