- Salt, to taste
For the Animal Style Sauce:
- ½ cup mayonnaise
- 2 tbsp ketchup
- 1 tbsp yellow mustard
- 1 tbsp sweet pickle relish
- 1 tsp white vinegar
- ½ tsp sugar
For the Toppings:
- 1 large onion, finely chopped
- 1 tbsp butter
- 1 tsp sugar
- 4 slices American cheese
Instructions
1️⃣ Prepare the Fries
- Cut russet potatoes into fries and soak them in cold water for 30 minutes (removes excess starch for crispier fries).
- Drain, pat dry, and toss with vegetable oil & salt.
- Bake at 425°F (220°C) for 25 minutes, flipping halfway OR air-fry at 380°F for 15 minutes until crispy.
2️⃣ Make the Sauce
- In a bowl, mix mayonnaise, ketchup, mustard, relish, vinegar, and sugar.
- Stir until smooth and refrigerate while prepping the onions.
3️⃣ Caramelize the Onions
- Heat butter in a pan over medium-low heat.
- Add chopped onions and sugar, then cook for 15 minutes, stirring occasionally until golden brown.
4️⃣ Assemble the Fries
- Place cooked fries on a plate.
- Lay cheese slices on top and let them melt (or pop them under the broiler for 1 minute).
- Spoon caramelized onions over the cheese.
- Drizzle generously with Animal Style sauce.
5️⃣ Serve & Enjoy!
- Grab a fork and dig in while they’re hot! 😋
Notes
✔️ Shortcut? Use frozen fries for a faster version!
✔️ Spice it up! Add a dash of hot sauce or cayenne to the sauce.
