Black Bean Patties:

  • 1 (15 oz) can black beans, drained and rinsed

  • ½ cup breadcrumbs

  • 1 egg

  • ¼ cup finely diced onion

  • 1 garlic clove, minced

  • ½ tsp ground cumin

  • Salt and pepper to taste

Jalapeño Popper Filling:

  • 4 tbsp cream cheese, softened

  • 1 jalapeño, finely diced (seeds removed for milder taste)

  • ¼ cup shredded cheddar cheese

Optional for Serving:

  • Burger buns, lettuce, tomato, avocado, spicy mayo, or more jalapeño slices


Instructions

  • Prepare patties: Mash black beans in a bowl. Add breadcrumbs, egg, onion, garlic, cumin, salt, and pepper. Mix well.

  • Shape burgers: Divide mixture into 8 thin patties. In a small bowl, mix cream cheese, jalapeños, and cheddar. Add 1 tbsp of filling to the center of 4 patties. Top with remaining patties and seal edges.

  • Cook: Heat a skillet with a little oil over medium heat. Cook each burger for 4–5 minutes per side, until browned and hot inside.

  • Assemble and serve: Place burgers on buns with your favorite toppings and enjoy hot!

  • Spice tip: Want more heat? Leave jalapeño seeds in or use pepper jack cheese.
