Monte Cristo Baked Grilled Cheese delivers the sweet and savory sandwich experience of the classic Monte Cristo, but in an easy baked format. Perfect for brunch or cozy evenings.
Ingredients
8 slices of thick sandwich bread
4 slices ham
4 slices turkey
4 slices Swiss cheese
4 slices cheddar cheese
4 large eggs
1/2 cup milk
1/2 tsp ground mustard
1/2 tsp black pepper
2 tbsp melted butter
Powdered sugar (for garnish)
Raspberry preserves (for dipping)
Instructions
1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
2. Whisk eggs, milk, ground mustard, and black pepper in a shallow dish.
3. Assemble sandwiches by layering ham, turkey, Swiss, and cheddar cheese between two slices of bread.
4. Dip each sandwich in the egg mixture, coating both sides well.
5. Place sandwiches on the baking sheet and brush tops with melted butter.
6. Bake for 12-15 minutes, flipping halfway, until golden brown and crispy.
7. Remove from oven and dust with powdered sugar.
8. Serve warm with raspberry preserves on the side.
Notes
For extra flavor, add Dijon mustard to the sandwich before baking.
Use brioche or challah for a richer texture.
Best served immediately, but leftovers can be reheated in the oven.
