These traditional cabbage rolls are stuffed with a flavorful beef and rice mixture, then simmered in a rich tomato sauce for a hearty and comforting meal. Perfect for family dinners!

Ingredients

Scale

For the Cabbage Rolls:

  • 1 large head of cabbage
  • 1 lb ground beef (or a mix of beef and pork)
  • 1 cup cooked rice
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 1 tsp salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • ½ tsp paprika

For the Tomato Sauce:

  • 1 can (28 oz) crushed tomatoes
  • 1 cup tomato sauce
  • 1 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper

Instructions

1️⃣ Bring a large pot of water to a boil. Carefully remove the outer leaves of the cabbage and blanch them in the boiling water for 2-3 minutes until soft. Drain and set aside.
2️⃣ In a bowl, mix ground beef, cooked rice, onion, garlic, egg, salt, pepper, and paprika.
3️⃣ Place about 2 tablespoons of the filling in the center of each cabbage leaf, roll tightly, and tuck in the sides. Place seam-side down in a baking dish.
4️⃣ In a saucepan, mix crushed tomatoes, tomato sauce, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, oregano, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 5 minutes.
5️⃣ Pour the sauce over the cabbage rolls, cover with foil, and bake at 350°F (175°C) for 1 hour. Remove foil and bake for another 15 minutes.
6️⃣ Let rest for 10 minutes before serving. Enjoy warm!
