Ingredients
Scale
2 ½ teaspoons active dry yeast
1 cup warm water (about 110°F)
3 ½ cups all-purpose flour
½ cup melted butter (divided)
2 tablespoons sugar
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon garlic powder (fresh garlic adds more punch!)
1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
¼ cup grated Parmesan cheese (optional, but recommended!)
Instructions
In a small bowl, combine the warm water and sugar. Sprinkle the yeast on top and let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until it’s frothy.
In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour and salt. Create a well in the center and pour in the yeast mixture along with half of the melted butter. Mix until a dough forms.
On a lightly floured surface, knead the dough for about 5-7 minutes until it’s smooth and elastic.
Place your dough in a bowl greased with a bit of the melted butter, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm spot for about 1 hour, or until it doubles in size.
Once your dough has risen, punch it down gently. Roll it out into a rectangle about ½ inch thick, then cut into strips (about 1 inch wide). Roll each strip into a long rope and place on a greased baking sheet.
Cover the shaped breadsticks with a cloth and let them rise for another 30 minutes.
Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Once the breadsticks have risen, bake them for 12-15 minutes or until golden brown.
While the breadsticks bake, combine the remaining melted butter, garlic powder, and Italian seasoning. Brush generously with this glaze after baking.
