Ingredients

  • 3 ½ cups all-purpose flour

  • 1 packet (2 ¼ tsp) active dry yeast

  • 1 cup warm milk

  • ¼ cup sugar

  • 1/3 cup unsalted butter, melted

  • 1 large egg

  • 1 tsp salt

Filling:

  • 1 cup brown sugar, packed

  • 2 tbsp ground cinnamon

  • ¼ cup unsalted butter, softened

Icing:

  • 1 cup powdered sugar

  • 2 tbsp cream cheese, softened

  • 2 tbsp milk

  • ½ tsp vanilla extract


Instructions

  1. Prepare dough: In a bowl, combine warm milk, yeast, and a pinch of sugar. Let sit 5 minutes until frothy. Mix in flour, sugar, melted butter, egg, and salt. Knead until smooth. Let rise 1 hour or until doubled.

  2. Make filling: Mix brown sugar and cinnamon.

  3. Roll & fill: Roll dough into a rectangle, spread softened butter, sprinkle cinnamon sugar evenly. Roll up tightly and cut into 12 slices.

  4. Bake: Place slices in a greased pan, cover, and let rise 30 minutes. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 25 minutes until golden.

  5. Icing: Whisk powdered sugar, cream cheese, milk, and vanilla until smooth. Drizzle over warm buns.

Notes

  • For extra gooeyness, add chopped pecans or raisins to filling.

  • Use a stand mixer with a dough hook for easier kneading.
