  • Yield: 4 servings 1x

Description

This easy and delicious dish combines the savory goodness of Philly cheese steak with the comfort of sloppy joes. It’s the perfect blend of cheesy, beefy, and flavorful, all packed into a soft bun.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Sloppy Joes:

  • 1 lb ground beef

  • 1 medium onion, diced

  • 1 red bell pepper, diced

  • 1/2 cup beef broth

  • 1/2 cup ketchup

  • 2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce

  • 1 tsp garlic powder

  • 1/2 tsp onion powder

  • Salt & pepper, to taste

  • 1 tbsp olive oil

For the Philly Cheese Steak Topping:

  • 4 slices provolone cheese (or American cheese, if preferred)

  • 1/2 cup shredded mozzarella cheese

  • 4 soft sandwich buns (preferably hoagie or brioche)

Instructions

  1. Cook the Beef: Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add ground beef, breaking it apart as it cooks. Brown for about 5–6 minutes.

  2. Add Veggies: Add diced onion and bell pepper to the beef and cook for another 3-4 minutes, until softened.

  3. Make the Sloppy Joe Sauce: Stir in the beef broth, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Let the mixture simmer for 5-7 minutes until it thickens slightly.

  4. Assemble the Sandwiches: Toast the sandwich buns lightly. Spoon the beef mixture onto the bottom half of each bun.

  5. Add Cheese: Top each sloppy joe with a slice of provolone cheese and a sprinkle of shredded mozzarella. Cover with the top bun.

  6. Serve hot, and enjoy this Philly-inspired sloppy joe creation!

Notes

  • You can add sautéed mushrooms for a more authentic Philly cheese steak flavor.

  • Swap in cheddar cheese or a mix of cheeses to make it your own!

  • For extra zest, try adding a little hot sauce to the sloppy joe mixture.
