Ingredients
For the Sloppy Joes:
-
1 lb ground beef
-
1 medium onion, diced
-
1 red bell pepper, diced
-
1/2 cup beef broth
-
1/2 cup ketchup
-
2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
-
1 tsp garlic powder
-
1/2 tsp onion powder
-
Salt & pepper, to taste
-
1 tbsp olive oil
For the Philly Cheese Steak Topping:
-
4 slices provolone cheese (or American cheese, if preferred)
-
1/2 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
-
4 soft sandwich buns (preferably hoagie or brioche)
Instructions
-
Cook the Beef: Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add ground beef, breaking it apart as it cooks. Brown for about 5–6 minutes.
-
Add Veggies: Add diced onion and bell pepper to the beef and cook for another 3-4 minutes, until softened.
-
Make the Sloppy Joe Sauce: Stir in the beef broth, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Let the mixture simmer for 5-7 minutes until it thickens slightly.
-
Assemble the Sandwiches: Toast the sandwich buns lightly. Spoon the beef mixture onto the bottom half of each bun.
-
Add Cheese: Top each sloppy joe with a slice of provolone cheese and a sprinkle of shredded mozzarella. Cover with the top bun.
-
Serve hot, and enjoy this Philly-inspired sloppy joe creation!
