2 cups of all-purpose flour
1 tablespoon of baking powder
½ teaspoon of salt
¼ teaspoon of black pepper
½ cup of cold unsalted butter, cubed
1 cup of diced cooked ham
1 cup of shredded cheese
¾ cup of buttermilk
1 large egg for egg wash
Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, and black pepper until combined.
Toss in the cubed cold butter and use a pastry cutter or your fingers to rub the butter into the flour until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
Fold in the diced ham and shredded cheese.
Make a well in the center and pour in the buttermilk. Using a fork, stir until just combined.
Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and gently pat it into a circle about 1-inch thick.
