Description

Ingredients

  • 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts (or thighs)
  • 1 tsp salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • ½ tsp garlic powder
  • ½ tsp onion powder
  • ½ tsp paprika
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 ½ cups chicken broth
  • 1 cup heavy cream (or milk for a lighter option)
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp Italian seasoning
  • 1 tbsp flour (for thickening)
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese (optional)
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 2 cups cooked white or brown rice
  • 2 tbsp chopped parsley (for garnish)

Instructions

1️⃣ Season & Sear the Chicken:

  • Season chicken with salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and paprika.
  • Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat.
  • Sear the chicken for 4-5 minutes per side until golden brown. Remove and set aside.

2️⃣ Make the Gravy:

  • In the same skillet, melt butter and sauté onions & garlic until soft.
  • Sprinkle in flour, stirring for 1 minute to form a roux.
  • Gradually pour in chicken broth, heavy cream, Worcestershire sauce, and Italian seasoning, stirring until smooth.

3️⃣ Simmer & Smother:

  • Return the chicken to the skillet, spooning some gravy over it.
  • Cover and let it simmer for 20-25 minutes until the chicken is tender.
  • Stir in cheese if using, until melted.

4️⃣ Serve & Enjoy:

  • Spoon the smothered chicken and gravy over warm rice.
  • Garnish with parsley and serve hot!
