- 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts (or thighs)
- 1 tsp salt
- ½ tsp black pepper
- ½ tsp garlic powder
- ½ tsp onion powder
- ½ tsp paprika
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 1 small onion, diced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 ½ cups chicken broth
- 1 cup heavy cream (or milk for a lighter option)
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tsp Italian seasoning
- 1 tbsp flour (for thickening)
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese (optional)
- 2 tbsp butter
- 2 cups cooked white or brown rice
- 2 tbsp chopped parsley (for garnish)
Instructions
1️⃣ Season & Sear the Chicken:
- Season chicken with salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and paprika.
- Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat.
- Sear the chicken for 4-5 minutes per side until golden brown. Remove and set aside.
2️⃣ Make the Gravy:
- In the same skillet, melt butter and sauté onions & garlic until soft.
- Sprinkle in flour, stirring for 1 minute to form a roux.
- Gradually pour in chicken broth, heavy cream, Worcestershire sauce, and Italian seasoning, stirring until smooth.
3️⃣ Simmer & Smother:
- Return the chicken to the skillet, spooning some gravy over it.
- Cover and let it simmer for 20-25 minutes until the chicken is tender.
- Stir in cheese if using, until melted.
4️⃣ Serve & Enjoy:
- Spoon the smothered chicken and gravy over warm rice.
- Garnish with parsley and serve hot!
