These Spicy Chicken Wontons are a delightful appetizer, bursting with flavor and served with a refreshing chili lime sauce that adds a zesty kick.
Ingredients
Chili Lime Sauce
2 tablespoons vegetable oil
2 medium cloves garlic minced
1–2 teaspoons red chili flakes
2 tablespoons honey or agave nectar
1/2 cup chicken broth
1/4 cup freshly-squeezed lime juice
1 teaspoon grated lime zest
salt and pepper to taste
Spicy Chicken Wontons
1/2 lb ground chicken
1/4 cup finely minced green onions
1/4 cup grated carrot
2 medium garlic cloves minced
1 tablespoon oyster sauce
1 teaspoon grated fresh ginger
1 teaspoon red chili flakes
1 teaspoon kosher salt
25 square wonton wrappers
sliced green onions and sesame seeds for topping
Instructions
- In a pan, heat the vegetable oil over medium heat and sauté the minced garlic until fragrant.
- Add the red chili flakes, honey or agave nectar, chicken broth, lime juice, and lime zest to create the chili lime sauce. Simmer for 5 minutes.
- In a bowl, combine ground chicken, green onions, grated carrot, minced garlic, oyster sauce, ginger, red chili flakes, and kosher salt. Mix well.
- Place a small spoonful of chicken mixture onto each wonton wrapper, wet the edges with water, and fold to seal.
- Steam the wontons for about 10-15 minutes until cooked through.
- Serve the wontons hot with the chili lime sauce drizzled on top and garnish with sliced green onions and sesame seeds.
Notes
Adjust the level of chili flakes based on your heat preference. Leftover chili lime sauce can be used as a salad dressing.
