Ingredients
1 lb steak strips (sirloin
flank
or ribeye)
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 teaspoon salt
½ teaspoon black pepper
1 teaspoon garlic powder
½ teaspoon paprika
½ teaspoon cumin
1 cup jasmine or basmati rice
2 cups beef broth
1 tablespoon butter
½ teaspoon salt
½ teaspoon garlic powder
¼ teaspoon smoked paprika
1 cup shredded white cheddar cheese
½ cup Monterey Jack cheese
¾ cup heavy cream
2 tablespoons cream cheese
½ teaspoon garlic powder
¼ teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional for spice)
2 tablespoons fresh cilantro
chopped
1 jalapeño
sliced
1 tablespoon sour cream
½ cup diced tomatoes
Instructions
- Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Season the steak strips with salt, black pepper, garlic powder, paprika, and cumin. Cook the steak for about 5-7 minutes until browned and cooked to your liking. Remove from heat and set aside.
- In a saucepan, combine the jasmine or basmati rice and beef broth. Add butter, salt, garlic powder, and smoked paprika. Bring to a boil, then reduce to a simmer, cover, and cook for 15-20 minutes until rice is tender and liquid is absorbed.
- In a separate pot, combine shredded white cheddar, Monterey Jack, heavy cream, cream cheese, garlic powder, and cayenne pepper. Cook over low heat, stirring until the cheese melts and the sauce is smooth.
- Once the rice is cooked, fluff it with a fork and combine it with the cooked steak. Serve the steak and rice mixture topped with the queso sauce.
- Garnish with chopped cilantro, sliced jalapeños, sour cream, and diced tomatoes for added freshness and flavor.
Notes
Feel free to customize the toppings based on your preference. Adding some avocado or corn can enhance both flavor and texture.
