Tiramisu is a classic Italian dessert that combines layers of coffee-soaked ladyfingers, creamy mascarpone filling, and a dusting of cocoa powder. This rich, indulgent treat is the perfect balance of sweet, creamy, and caffeinated flavors!

- ¼ cup coffee liqueur (optional)
- 2 cups mascarpone cheese, softened

- 2 tbsp cocoa powder (for dusting)
- 1 package (7 oz) ladyfingers (savoiardi)
- Dark chocolate shavings (optional, for garnish)

Prepare the Coffee Mixture:
- Brew 1 ½ cups of strong coffee (or espresso) and let it cool.
- Add coffee liqueur to the cooled coffee (optional) and set aside.

Make the Mascarpone Filling:
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the mascarpone cheese, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract until smooth.
- In a separate large bowl, beat the heavy cream until stiff peaks form.
- Gently fold the whipped cream into the mascarpone mixture until well combined.

Assemble the Tiramisu:
- Quickly dip each ladyfinger into the coffee mixture, making sure they don’t get too soggy.
- Arrange a layer of dipped ladyfingers in the bottom of a 9×9-inch baking dish or serving trifle dish.
- Spread half of the mascarpone mixture over the ladyfingers.
- Repeat with another layer of dipped ladyfingers and the remaining mascarpone mixture.

Chill the Tiramisu:
- Cover the dish with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, or overnight, to allow the flavors to meld together.

Serve:
- Before serving, dust the top of the tiramisu with cocoa powder and garnish with chocolate shavings if desired.
Notes
- For a non-alcoholic version, skip the coffee liqueur and use extra coffee or a splash of vanilla extract.
- Make sure to use fresh mascarpone cheese for the best creamy texture.
- Tiramisu can be made a day in advance for the best flavor, allowing the layers to set beautifully.
