Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 pounds of kielbasa sausage, cut into 1-inch pieces
  • 4 cups of sauerkraut, drained
  • 1 cup of onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves of garlic, minced
  • 1 apple, peeled and diced
  • 1 teaspoon of caraway seeds (optional)
  • 2 tablespoons of brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon of black pepper
  • 1 cup of chicken or vegetable broth

  • Instructions

  • Prep the Ingredients: Start by cutting the kielbasa into pieces and chop the onion and apple. Mince the garlic. The prep work doesn’t take long, and your kitchen will already start to smell wonderful!
  • Layer the Ingredients: In your slow cooker, layer the sauerkraut, followed by the chopped onions, garlic, and apple. Sprinkle the caraway seeds (if using) over the top.
  • Add the Kielbasa: Scatter the kielbasa pieces over the sauerkraut mixture, creating a beautiful layer of meat that will soak up all those delicious flavors.
  • Season: In a small bowl, mix together the brown sugar, black pepper, and broth. Pour this heavenly mixture over everything in the slow cooker. Don’t worry if it looks a bit saucy – it’s all going to meld together beautifully.
  • Set the Slow Cooker: Cover and cook on low for 6-8 hours or on high for 3-4 hours. The longer it cooks, the better the flavors blend.
  • Serve and Enjoy: Once it’s done, give it a gentle stir. Ladle the sauerkraut and kielbasa into bowls. Serve with bread, mashed potatoes, or rice.
